Today I found my artwork entitled WORLD OF SLEEPERS as DD. Wow! I think but....It was my artwork but someone steal it and upload as his :/ and received DD for it. I was so angry. Tell me what should I do? Put watermark on each work or something....I'm helpless, angry and sad because of this situation :(

A while back, someone put up pictures of famous metalwork by Edgar Brandt on a page here and claimed they were their work, and one got a DD. Several of us reported it and the person was removed. I don't know what the current reporting method is, though I see a "report deviation" button in the picture information column that I would try. Anyway, I would hate to see your work disfigured by watermarks, though since you do photomanipulations, maybe you could use digital watermarking.
Dionysius7 Featured By Owner Mar 17, 2010
Perhaps along the circumference of the rim or along the steps you could create an embossed text that looks like it belongs as part of the image, but is actually part of your signature, identifying the artist who created it.

Btw, this piece is so good.

i hate to say it, but only a huge pos watermark stops most thieves. sucks for the rest of us, and hurts your own feelings every time you have to do it, as it reopens that scar... the alternative method would be to offer to email the pic to registered or recorded users so you'd have a list of people with access to the unmarked print. that sucks too, because none of this [regulation, theft, assholery, need for marking] was why da was started to begin with. you got my sympathy and then some , man.

Terrific piece, I think this one in particular was overshadowed by the news of the art theft. Thankfully that incident was resolved, but this artwork deserves more. The texture work is incredible, as usual I don't know where real life ends and photomanipulation begins.

First rate job.

:o I'm sorry to hear someone stole your work :(
It's an amazing piece!
I guess you could put your name in the corner or your DA url or something
I hope it does't happen again

Beautiful again..

I don't like the watermark neither... it ruins a lot.
It is just easy to ask permission...nothing wrong with that. For me..I don't care..take what you want, I always can prove that I made it on what time..What the others do with afterwards, I don't care.. working on new things already.. ;)

Unfortunately there will always be theft,no matter what.
But those that know and love your work will always seek out your art from your own site or homepage here. It is of course a travesty that your piece was stolen ,then got a DD. Deviant Art should be better at keeping this from happening, and the perpetrator should be immediately removed from this community.Watermarks are a pain in the ass and don't even work that well.My own view is,you do what you can to protect your art and your rights to it,but don't waste too much of your precious energy defending what is yours,it will deplete you. Better to take that energy and make another awesome artwork...
Let the joy of creation be your ultimate reward.Anything after that is just icing on the cake...Remember,YOU are the one that is blessed with the true and rare talent, the thieves are just wannabees... They can never touch you.

Thank you all for comments and advice. I need to think about it cause truth is that each small and gentle watermark can be removed in graphic programs :(

watermark! or embeded text in the image. a pitty for the viewers, but you are safer.

I can understand why someone would want to steal your work, to be absolutely honest, it's STUNNING. That said, I sincerely hope that the Theif gets it's just deserts, and that DD goes to where it's TRULY been earned.

As for the this peace, I just switched my background less then a week ago, and already I'm tempted to do so again! :shakefist: I have a feeling that's going to be happening a lot as I roam your gallery.

This is outrageous. The work belongs to another artist !!!!. Three days ago my art was stolen from me and received DD and today this one. Person from the right ( in original was deleted not precisely by this thief ). SHAME!!! SHAME!!! SHAME!!!!

Report the twit who stole your work. Enjoy the irony that your work got a DD under somebody else's name. I think the big-ass dA watermark, while protecting your work from being stolen by outside sources, wont protect you from thieves inside dA (assholes, each & every one IMHO). Find/create something personal, so there's no denying it's yours if you're going to watermark your work. And not too big...your work is stunning.
RedMonkeyx Featured By Owner Jun 21, 2009
I love this piece and everything you do. I think karma will get the guy that stole your work. I agree with the post above and put your own copyright info on your stuff.
GrandeOmbre Featured By Owner Jun 21, 2009
I have the same problems but I think the watermark from Deviant ruins he work... Maybe you should just add your copyright in a corner of your picture... This kind of thieves don't have the tool to erase it...

marine1200 Featured By Owner Jun 21, 2009
Try putting a clear stroke water mark on it...I'm not sure that is I just know it's used to copywrite and image without taking away the beauty of it.
monicaoldenburg Featured By Owner Jun 21, 2009
yes, you should watermark your work. it is just too beautiful!!

I think Karma will take care of that other person. Don´t be upset about not getting the honour.

trzymaj sie!

It would be a pity if there were watermarks on your works, specially that big ugly dA watermark. Maybe you could insert a little graphically more intergrated watermark like a small line of text. I believe 98% of the rippers would be to lazy to remove it.
DarkMetaphor Featured By Owner Jun 21, 2009  Hobbyist Photographer
Sorry about the theft of your artwork. I hope they get what they deserve. Great picture anyway. :)
Max6 Featured By Owner Jun 21, 2009
I know, it happened to you twice. I would be absolutely angry when that happens to me. Nevertheless, you watermarked the 'World Of Sleepers' but it still got stolen. I don't know how... I think the best way is to use your own watermarks... dA's watermarks only applies to the fullview version, but when the work is at normal view, they can still it. When you use your own, it is harder for the art theft to steal your work. Another way is to upload smaller sized works... this is just my opinion. Hope it helps. I am very scared to upload my works on dA now. Not only on dA, but any other site!

Hey man, just found out about the art theft. That really sucks! Some people don't like when artwork gets watermarked but they have to understand that having your work stolen is no fun.

You should message Deviant Art and ask them how someone approved a stolen version of your artwork as a DD while yours sat idle, or while millions of other people who would love a DD missed out for some mistake, half the people that saw that knew it was your work......

They should public announce a sincere apology to you, I still can't believe that shit.
gr4y-inu Featured By Owner Jun 20, 2009
amazing, i always liked Your style but this more.

about art theft - there are two ways - leave DA, put watermarks, low resolution and high compression, or just bear with it. i'd prefer second, as there will always be ppl who does that, even removing watermarks and redrawing some places, most important is message in each artwork and that it reaches as many people as possible. what is the value of any kind of artwork if it is hidden in some expensive house in a glass cage? eventually You will get credit for Your work if it is good. proof that it is good is fact that ppl steal it.
many have left da, many put watermarks, few still post high resolution images and in my opinion those few are the one of the best artists. they can't steal Your vision and ability to do what You do.

MarteGracia Featured By Owner Jun 20, 2009  Professional Digital Artist
People who do that should be banned. But please do not watermark your art. Some of us really enjoy your updates.
I wish you well my friend.

Last night when I reported the theft I left a note about its DD status. Its no longer on the list, so I guess DA took notice to one or another of us who reported it.

Oh, and I also fav'd the original. Its really good, and its a shame no one noticed back when you uploaded it. B-)
CocoCider Featured By Owner Jun 20, 2009
D': Oh wow, I'd be ready to murder the bastard.
To be safe, I think you should start watermarking everything.
Your work is beautiful and I wouldn't be suprised if someone tried stealing it again. x.x
